Many readers know me as the author of the Gilda Joyce mysteries—a series of supernatural adventures featuring a bold, curious heroine who uses intuition, unconventional problem-solving, and imagination to investigate and solve mysteries. For me, writing has always been about more than suspense; it’s about exploring truth, identity, and the stories that make us who we are.
Every mystery—whether on the page or in life—begins with curiosity. My path as a writer has been shaped by that curiosity and the thrill of uncovering what lies beneath the surface of ordinary life. As a child, I filled notebooks with stories. Writing has been my way of understanding the world and myself. Over the years, I’ve learned that storytelling isn’t just an art form—it’s a mirror that reflects our search for identity, meaning, and belonging. Each character I create teaches me something new and magical.
In addition to my work as a novelist, I’m also a speaker, educator, and writing coach. I love helping others unlock their creativity and discover the stories that only they can tell. Writing has been a lifelong journey of self-discovery, but it’s also led me to discover the amazing stories that live within others. Every conversation with a reader or writer reminds me that storytelling is a shared adventure. Whether I’m visiting a school, leading a writing workshop, or joining a book club conversation, I aim to make storytelling feel both exciting and accessible. There’s a special magic in seeing someone realize that their own imagination holds the key to an incredible story—and that their voice matters.
Writing has been a lifelong journey of self-discovery, and it’s also led me to discover the amazing stories that live within others. I’m currently at work on an exciting new novel, and I can’t wait to share it soon. In the meantime, I hope you’ll either take a walk down memory lane and revisit the beloved Gilda Joyce books that some of you grew up with—or introduce a young reader to these award-winning classic mysteries from an era before cell phones. I hope you’ll join me at an event or workshop to explore your own creative journey.
I’m available for school visits, book club events, writing workshops, and manuscript coaching. To learn more or to schedule an event, please visit the Contact page—I’d love to hear from you! - Jennifer Allison
